Birthday Boy!

My Baby Carson is 5 today.
Well. Its here. My baby is officially a .... um... kid. Five years is a big mile stone for me... and him. This is the beginning of our separation. The two of us have spend nearly every waking moment together for five whole years. Now that he is old enough to attend kindergarten he will become more and more independent. While I (his best friend in the world) will have to let go and watch him grow up.
I'm going to need some serious pharmaceutical intervention.

This is Carson at school before his birthday. He looks soooo big!
(but notice even Velcro shoes cant stay on this kid)
The birthday cake I made for our family party.

Oooo la la. Like my new cake stand?

My little helper.

Ok. A few weeks ago Carson told me he wanted a rocket pack for his birthday. I am pretty sure that would be a hard gift to find on ebay. So, I set out to make one myself.
Most of the fabric was sewn with my new sewing machine. However, I have never been very good at sewing so there are some parts put together with a hot-glue gun.
This took hours!!! I was so glad that he liked it.

Please note the detail on the flames. I was very proud of those 'mad skills'. I still cant believe I sewed those together.... with a sewing machine!!! No glue this time!

Adoption

This was a very hard decision.
Curtis and I have been discussing the possibilities of adoption for quite a long time. We seem to have a lot of... disagreements on this one subject. So we delayed and delayed for what seems like years. Carson was the one to make the final decision. He started begging... and as usual... I said "yes".
So, two days after returning from our Christmas vacation I signed the official papers and we brought home a baby. Quite shocking... I know.
At first things went well. The baby seems to like Curtis the most, I dont know why. He is a nice guy and all, but I am the one that takes care of her.
The first night at home she cried all night long, and would not stop unless she was in bed next to Curtis. I also had to get up in the night and take her to the potty, because she seems to be afraid of the dark.
We have purchased some new toys for her to play with... but so far her favorite one is an old ping-pong ball..? Carson has tried to teach her to build with legos, but she is more interested in whacking them around the room.
Lately she has had a fascination with lights, which I think is normal for babies. However, this baby tries to attack them... or even lick them.
Everyday she seems to get more and more entertaining. So far we have enjoyed our adoptive experience. I even bought her a pink collar.
Have I confused you yet?
Ok.
Meet "Hero"

PS. - For those of you who were wondering. The shelter where we found her really made me sign several official documents about the "adoption" and our "home environment" and "the baby". Since we truly have thought about "adoption" the whole experience was a little ...um... funny.

Christmas Vacation

Our Christmas celebrations started early this year. We were planning on flying home for the actual holiday, but we also wanted to have our own party at home.
So.... one day Carson asked "Can we open presents?". Being the good parent that I am... I said "sure, why not". We opened all our presents one Sunday afternoon a few weeks before the traditional December 25th.

I love this picture of Curtis and Carson playing the Wii. Neither Curtis or I are big supporters of "computer games". So we were (are) very lost in the world of Wii. But, don't worry we are practicing every night.... after Carson goes to bed

Our trip to Utah was tons of fun. Carson had so many cousins to play with. This is most of the cousins at the playground in chucky-cheese.

Our trip to temple square was a very cold one! Plus, everyone else in Utah decided to go that night. I was very worried we would loose one of the kids in that crowd.

My Mom with all the grand-kids. We all came to story time... lucky her :)

I think Carson has a hard time sharing his Grandparents. Most of the time he has all the attention to himself. With all the grand-kids around he has to share them.... kinda confusing for an only child. But he would latch on to one of them every now and then and demand attention. At story time Carson sat right next to Grans...cute, but hard to see the picture books. Carson also had Papa take him out on the snowmobile every chance he could.

We hope you have all had a good Christmas. It might take us a few weeks to recover from our vacation... We had a great time.
Love ya
